I was pleased when Hello Fresh asked me to work with them, and I chose the Steak Strips and Cheesy Wedges ’n’ Posh Gravy recipe to review. It was a real winner.

Hello Fresh
I’ve tried Hello Fresh before. I wasn’t always convinced by meal kits, but since using them more I’ve come to appreciate their convenience and purpose.

So now to the recipe I decided to make:
Steak Strips and Cheesy Wedges ’n’ Posh Gravy
I picked this recipe because it looked and sounded delicious—and it didn’t disappoint. It’s quick to make but feels special enough for a family dinner.

At Easy Peasy we feature a lot of chicken recipes, so I decided to cook beef this time. The cheesy wedges were a highlight — I’ll definitely make them again. The green beans roast alongside the wedges, which keeps things efficient and tasty.
The steak strips, mushrooms and onion combine with a rich red-wine-style stock to make a glossy, flavour-packed gravy. Everyone enjoyed the meal; it’s now a firm favourite in my repertoire and one I’ll make regularly.

If you give this recipe a try, please share your photos and comments — I’d love to see how it turns out for you.
Another Steak Strip Idea
If you enjoy steak strips, you might also like my Easy Beef Udon Noodles & Shiitake Mushrooms recipe. It’s another quick, flavourful beef dish that pairs well with thinly sliced steak.

Big love as always, Clare x

Recipe: Steak Strips and Cheesy Wedges ’n’ Posh Gravy
Delicious and easy steak strips with cheesy wedges and a flavour-packed gravy, served with green beans.
Details
- Prep Time: 45 minutes
- Cook Time: 30 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
- Servings: 2
- Calories per serving: 926 kcal
Ingredients
- 4 Potatoes
- 100 g Cheddar cheese
- 1 Red onion
- 200 g Closed cup mushrooms
- 1 pack Green beans
- 240 g Beef steak strips
- 8 g Plain flour (contains gluten)
- 1 Red wine stock pot
- 200 millilitres Water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Cut the potatoes into 2 cm-wide wedges (no need to peel).
- Grate the cheese.
- Place the wedges in a single layer on a large baking tray. Drizzle with oil, season with salt and pepper, toss to coat, then spread out and roast on the top shelf until golden, 25–30 minutes. Turn halfway through cooking.
- Five minutes before the wedges are done, sprinkle the cheese evenly over them and return to the oven for the remaining time.
- Meanwhile, halve, peel and thinly slice the red onion. Thinly slice the mushrooms.
- Put the green beans on another baking tray, drizzle with oil, season with salt and pepper, toss to coat and set aside.
- Heat a drizzle of oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the steak strips, season with salt and pepper, and stir-fry until nicely browned, 2–3 minutes. Remove the meat to a bowl and reduce the heat to medium-high.
- Add the onion and mushrooms to the pan with a little oil, season, and stir-fry until golden and soft, 5–6 minutes.
- While the mushrooms are frying, roast the green beans in the oven until crispy but tender, 15–20 minutes. When the mushrooms are browned, stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Return the steak strips and any juices to the pan, pour in the water and add the red wine stock pot. Stir to dissolve and bring to a simmer.
- Simmer until the sauce is glossy and slightly reduced, 10–15 minutes. Important: the steak is safe to eat when the outside is cooked.
- Serve as you prefer: wedges alongside the steak and gravy with mushrooms, and a portion of green beans, or serve the steak and gravy on top of the cheesy wedges. Enjoy!
