Spiraling Episode 1: Katie Dalebout Interview

img 29516 1Friends! Today is a very big day for me (and maybe for you) because I get to share something I’ve been quietly working on for the last six months.

I made a podcast.

I’m thrilled, proud, and a little nervous to announce the launch of Spiraling, a podcast co-hosted by me, Serena Wolf, and my friend Katie Dalebout. The show is dedicated to one topic: anxiety.

Spiraling is an optimistic anxiety podcast. Katie and I have candid conversations about how anxiety shows up in our lives and the strategies we use to manage it. Each episode opens with two anxious friends sharing what we’re spiraling about that week—from awkward social moments to business decisions and even the small humiliations of everyday life—then moves into a focused discussion about an aspect of anxiety and practical ways to cope. The tone is honest, warm, and occasionally profane, because that’s honest too. Our aim is to remind anyone struggling with anxiety that they are not alone, not damaged, and that it’s possible to live a full life while tending to mental health.

I’ve lived with generalized anxiety and occasional panic attacks for about a decade, and talking about it publicly has always been part of my goal. Normalizing anxiety helps reduce shame and misunderstanding. On a personal level, being open about my mental health has made a real difference in how I live and work. Anxiety doesn’t define me, but acknowledging it has allowed me to be more fully myself.

The idea for the podcast began in February when Katie came over to record an episode for her show. We did a short movement practice, shared a smoothie, and then talked—apparently for hours—about anxiety. The conversation was raw, funny, and unexpectedly healing for both of us. We left feeling lighter and realized that if talking to each other felt that good, hearing those conversations might help other people too. Many listeners have told us they need to hear that anxiety doesn’t make someone “broken” or “crazy,” and that inspired us to create a space dedicated to those conversations.

We started meeting almost every Wednesday in March to shape the show and decide what would be most useful. For this first season we chose a topical approach so each episode focuses on one theme. Here’s how the season is structured:

  • EPISODE 1: WHO ARE WE, AND WHY ARE WE HERE? In our opener, Katie and I interview each other so listeners can learn who we are and how anxiety has shaped our lives.
  • EPISODE 2: “I DON’T SPEAK ANXIETY.” A deep dive into how anxiety affects relationships and why developing the language to describe it matters for self-understanding and connection with others.
  • EPISODE 3: MY THERAPIST THINKS I’M A CATCH. A conversation about therapy—how it helps, what to expect, and why it’s worth trying.
  • EPISODE 4: THE ONE WITH OUR ANXIETY TOOLKITS. Katie and I share practical anxiety-management strategies that have helped us in everyday life.
  • EPISODE 5: PROFESSIONALLY ANXIOUS. We talk about how anxiety shows up at work and how to manage stress, imposter moments, and career-related worry.
  • EPISODE 6: DO YOU HAVE SOCIAL (MEDIA) ANXIETY? A discussion about the impact of social media on anxiety and tactics for navigating online spaces without losing your mind.

We also have a few bonus episodes planned for the holidays.

These conversations are raw, honest, vulnerable, and genuinely fun. My hope is that this podcast helps people understand anxiety better—whether they experience it themselves or are trying to support someone who does—while chipping away at stigma and offering concrete tools. If we can make listeners laugh during the process, that’s a welcome bonus.

If you struggle with anxiety, care for someone who does, or simply enjoy thoughtful, real conversations about life and the small horrors of social faux pas, give Spiraling a listen. The first episode is live now, and new episodes will be released every Tuesday through September. Available on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Simplecast.

If you listen and feel inclined to support the show, subscribing and leaving a rating or review on your podcast platform helps others find us and amplifies these anxiety conversations.

If the podcast might resonate with someone you know, please consider sharing it.
